The Music Man:
Eliot Lewis of Hall & Oates performs live at Boston’s on the Beach
Presented by SeaSide Music Management and Inside Musicast

Delray Beach, Fla. – For one night only on Thursday, June 8, from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, American rock and roll artist Eliot Lewis will make his first live appearance at the legendary Boston’s on the Beach, presented by SeaSide Music Management and Inside Musicast.

Celebrated for his previous work with the Scottish R&B group Average White Band, and a current band member of Hall & Oates, Eliot is also a featured musician on MTV’s Live From Daryl’s House, a critically acclaimed webcast started by Daryl Hall in late 2007. His contributions stand out on some of the best moments from the show, including performances with ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Joe Walsh, Train, Jewel, Rob Thomas, Darius Rucker, Gavin DeGraw, and many more.

“Eliot is a musician who can do it all, great singer, songwriter, and guitarist,” says Daryl Hall. “He rocks and he’s got soul. No one does it quite like him.”

Eliot, who describes his onstage style as a cacophony of classic rock, soul, funk, and blues, credits Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, John Bonham, Jack Bruce, Stevie Wonder, and Billy Preston as musical influencers.

Today, Eliot tours as a solo artist captivating audiences all over the country with his electrical performances. Having mastered four instruments throughout his career – guitar, keyboard, bass, and drums – Eliot’s music comes from the inside out. “The main inspiration for any of my records is to convey these little slices of life, most of my songs are written about my own experiences and situations,” he says.
In 2016, Eliot signed an exclusive recording partnership with SoNo Recording Group. His first release, Adventure, is a collection of 11 new recordings; 10 originals written, performed, and produced by Eliot, and one cover of the Bad Company classic, “Ready for Love.”

Eliot is joined onstage by Billy Livesay of The Livesays. Memorable pop classics, soulful vocals, wailing slide guitar, and riveting live performances are Billy Livesay’s signature. A respected member of the music community, Billy has toured as guitarist and lead vocalist for 12 years with Temple of Soul, a group formed by the late E Street Band member Clarence Clemons, and he has shared the stage with many of the greatest legends in rock and roll.

Admission is free; no cover charge. For more information, please visit us online at bostonsonthebeach.com/live-music.

Bar Association President Wraps Up Term, Looks Ahead

PRESIDENT OF PALM BEACH COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION FINISHES TERM, LOOKS TOWARD FUTURE GOALS FOR HIMSELF, GARDENS FIRM
John Whittles Recounts His Time In Office, Looks Ahead to Future

(West Palm Beach, Fla.) – Attorney John Whittles of Mathison Whittles, LLP, is wrapping up his year-long term as the President of the Palm Beach County Bar Association with gratitude for the experience and excitement for future plans. Whittles’ time at the helm of the nearly century-old association was eventful – from a fire nearly burning down the Association’s headquarters in West Palm Beach to his recent interview of internationally-known trial law figure Amanda Knox.

“The past year has been so rewarding for me both professionally and personally,” said Whittles. “I’ve been a board member for many years, but being president was a whole new experience. The relationships I formed and the charity work I was a part of really made the job satisfying.”

Founded in 1922, The Palm Beach County Bar Association is an organization with a membership of just under 5,000 lawyers, judges and other legal professionals. Membership is voluntary, and the Association offers a myriad of services to their members, particularly for continuing legal education.

The Association also focuses on giving back to the community, namely through its support of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, which provides free legal services to underprivileged residents. The Bar Association also supports Habitat for Humanity and Café Joshua, a catering company that provides education and experience to help the homeless gain valuable work experience to land outside employment, with proceeds benefiting The Lord’s Place.

“We are proud of our profession and the Association’s effort to dispel the sometimes-negative perception of lawyers by using our legal skills to assist those in need,” Whittles said. “We feel giving back to the community through both legal aid and just offering helping hands and our time is an important element of upholding the standards and ethics of the Bar.”

In January, a car accident resulted in a downed wire that caught the Association’s offices on fire. It happened overnight, so no one was hurt, but extensive damage had been done, and the cleanup process was something Whittles will never forget.

“It happened at a busy time of year,” Whittles said. “We had to find alternative space for people to work, notify the members and start to rebuild. That took months. It was unfortunate, but also a learning experience for me in crisis management and teamwork.”

Most recently, Whittles’ position as Bar Association president afforded him the opportunity at an Association luncheon to interview Amanda Knox, whose story of imprisonment in Italy on murder charges led to global headlines for many years.

“Amanda Knox’s story is fascinating from all angles, but especially the human-interest piece,” Whittles said following the presentation. “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to get Amanda’s account of what happened. As an attorney, I know there are two sides to every story, and this luncheon was the perfect opportunity to examine all angles.”

Whittles’ experience with the Bar Association only reinforced his strong support for the legal community in Palm Beach County.

“We are a unique climate for lawyers,” Whittles said. “We have the best judges I’ve seen in my travels. Judges go out of their way to accept each other and the established network of lawyers. Expectations and understanding come from the top down, and it all comes down to a high caliber of people. We have mentoring programs in place for more efficient and caring lawyers, and we work hard to push professional development.” Programs include the award-winning “Coffee and Bagels With The Judges,” which are regular meetings designed to connect judges and lawyers in a more candid environment outside the courtroom.

With almost 20 years of experience as an attorney, Whittles is now looking forward to spending more time with his wife, young daughter and dog. He’s also looking forward to playing more with his rock band, “Counselors of Rock.” The band recently won an all-attorney talent show benefitting the Gulfstream Boy Scouts of America.

The next president of the Palm Beach County Bar Association will take the position on June 17.

Happy May, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day

Happy May, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day

I hope you are all enjoying the month of May.  I really enjoyed my Mother’s Day this year by going to the beach.  The weather was sunny and not too hot.  My friend and I went snorkeling and saw lots of fish.  Then we gathered in Wellington at my brother-in-law’s home for a barbecue.  I don’t want to brag, but my nephew makes the best dry rub ribs ever.  Anyway, that was my Mother’s Day.  Hope yours was good too!

Steve and Donna Willey of Village Music Wellington

This month we are proud to feature Village Music Wellington for our “AW Spotlight” story.  Donna and Steve Willey have successfully grown the business and are now teaching over 300 students music lessons (thanks to their terrific team of music teachers).  They are currently located in the Fresh Market plaza on Forest Hill Blvd., but they have outgrown their current location.  Read the article and see where they are moving to in the fall.  It’s going to be a great location, where they will have a café, a stage for performing and an outdoor area.

Art by Maureen Fulgenzi.

Also check out “Cultural Corner” for a story about an amazing artist Maureen Fulgenzi. Her work can be seen at the US Bank Palm Beach branch. Writer Angela Shaw takes us into Fulgenzi’s background and also her technique.

Speaking of taking us places, Ms. Travel with Terri takes us on an exploration of how to choose the best cruise.  Today there are so many options when it comes to cruising. This article has some great insights.

A warm welcome to our new Teen Talk writer Mikayla Carroll.  Mikayla is a student at Palm Beach Central High School and is also our intern for AroundWellington®.  In this month’s article, she explains that only one thing (when preparing for your college years) is certain – uncertainty.

Teen Talk writer Mikayla Carroll

Check out all of the other articles this month too!  Hope you enjoy your Memorial Day weekend and get to spend some time outdoors.

See you Around Wellington®.
