COVID-19 BLUES Features Such Much Loved Singers as Tony Orlando, Melissa Manchester, Tom Wopat, Susan Anton, Melissa Errico, Siedah Garrett, Casey Abrams, N’Kenge, and More!

Boca Raton, FL – June 11, 2021) While the number of COVID cases continue to drop every day, two extraordinary musicians from Boca Raton—Deborah  Silver, #1 Billboard jazz vocalist, and Dennis Lambert, the 12-time GRAMMY nominated songwriter—are also celebrating the success of their inspirational COVID-19 BLUES, a star-packed original recording that earmarks all sales and donations to The Actors Fund (https://actorsfund.org) and Jazz Foundation of America (https://jazzfoundation.org).

Hailed by Quincy Jones for her “strong and sultry vocals (that) are seductive and soul-soothing,” the COVID-surviving Silver is the 2020 Broadway World Best Commercial Recording Award Winner, whose best-selling albums include Glitter and Grits, The Gold Standards and Pure Silver.

“During the 40 days I was sick with the coronavirus, I knew I wanted to help others as soon as I recovered,” says Silver. “My husband said, ‘Why don’t you write a song called COVID-19 BLUES?’ So, I called my friend Dennis Lambert, we started writing together and a month later the song was born. I am thankful to everyone who performed from their homes and hearts to make this song and video a reality.”

Among the artists who donated their time and talent to perform on the remix are Tony Orlando, Melissa Manchester, Tom Wopat, Billy Gilman, Susan Anton, Casey Abrams, Siedah Garrett, Lisa Fisher, Allan Harris, Melissa Errico, the Sharpe Family Singers, Bernard Fowler, Daniel Emmet, Nita Whitaker, Luba Mason, Tony Tavares, Chubby Tavares, J.D. “You can hear the passion in the voices of every performer on COVID-19 BLUES. These folks are fed up. Like lions in a cage about to be set free, they can’t help but sing about it,” adds Lambert, who has helmed hit records for The Four Tops, Dusty Springfield, Glen Campbell, and more.

In addition, many members of the general public—especially healthcare workers—contributed video segments to this remix of COVID-19 BLUES, with clips coming from all over the world. Also heard on the recording are drummer Steve Jordan, Boca Raton’s Alan Palanker on keyboards, guitaristRay Parker Jr., bass playerLeland Sklar, Tom Scott on horns, andMickey Raphael, who has been Willie Nelson’s harmonica player for nearly a half-century.

“I dedicate this video to the memory of my dear friend Mary Wilson, who shared our passion for this project,” explains Silver. “Unfortunately, she passed away and never got the chance to contribute her remarkable talent to the song. But her joyful spirit and beautiful heart are a huge part of this project.”

“I’m also thrilled that 100 percent of all donations from this project will be used by the Jazz Foundation of America and The Actors Fund to directly help individuals who need assistance.” she says.

England’s Carbis Bay Hotel: The G7 Summit’s Spectacular Site

England’s Carbis Bay Hotel

By Mike May

Question:  Guess who’s coming to dinner — and breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea – at the Carbis Bay Hotel?

Answer/Who:  The political leaders of Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Canada, and the United States.

What:  The G7 Summit.

When:  June 11-13, 2021.

Where:  The Carbis Bay Hotel (Carbis Bay, Cornwall, England).

Why:  To discuss global issues such as how the world must “build back better after COVID,” in the words of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Yes, in mid-June, the G7 Summit will be held at one of Britain’s cool, classy and comfortable destinations – the Carbis Bay Hotel, a four-star resort, in Carbis Bay, Cornwall, England, which is roughly a six-hour journey west of London.  The hotel is perched on 125 acres of the beautiful Cornish coastline.

Carbis Bay — a seaside town of just more than 3,000 people — is a quiet, low-key, off-the-beaten-path community that is not used to high-profile international visitors.  For decades, Carbis Bay has existed as the ‘next-door neighbor,’ so to speak, of the more well-known and more popular vacation destination – that being St. Ives, which is one of Britain’s more popular holiday ‘hot-spots,’ a functioning fishing port, and an artists’ colony.

For the most part, to get to St. Ives, you have to travel through Carbis Bay.  But, for world leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, U.S. President Joe Biden, and Johnson, who will serve as the host of the G7 Summit, they will stop and actually spend most of their time in Carbis Bay, specifically at the Carbis Bay Hotel.

In addition to meeting in Carbis Bay, they will be dining, and, hopefully, do some sight-seeing in Carbis Bay, starting with enjoying the views out to sea from the hotel which are always pleasing to the eye.  The seaside vistas from the Carbis Bay Hotel are worthy of a picture postcard.  Those views are usually the most dramatic in the morning as you enjoy breakfast.

Johnson, Macron, Merkel, Biden, and their political peers – plus the aides and security details — will have an unobstructed view of St. Ives Bay from the cozy comforts of their meeting rooms at this boutique hotel which is perched well within Porthrepta Cove and borders Carbis Bay Beach.  Truth be told, it might be tough to concentrate during these high-level meetings because the views out to sea, with the Godrevy Lighthouse in the distance, are mesmerizing.

When it comes to food at the Carbis Bay Hotel, there are three options:  Restaurant 1894, The Beach Club Restaurant, and the Hungry Gannet.  Unless each national entourage brings its own chef, the attendees will get to enjoy the talents and the culinary creative genius of executive chef Andy Houghton.  And, if you want to enjoy coffee, tea, and tapas, The Conservatory, with its unobstructed views of the St. Ives Bay, is a great place to go at the Carbis Bay Hotel.

An amazing appetizer at Restaurant 1894

Restaurant 1894 specializes in breakfast, afternoon tea, Sunday lunch, and dinner.  At breakfast, for anybody seeking an authentic English cooked breakfast, they should try the Carbis Bay Grill.  That cooked breakfast, as the British refer to it, is local pork sausage, bacon, fried egg, mushrooms, grilled tomato, and bubble & squeak.  For afternoon tea, you must order the Cornish Cream Tea which includes scones, local strawberry preserves, Cornish clotted cream, and a pot of tea – FYI: there are eight varieties of teas on the menu.  For Sunday lunch, you will be served a starter (i.e. an appetizer), main course, and a dessert.  The most popular main course is the roast striploin of beef, which is served with Yorkshire pudding and pan gravy.

Dinner is the featured meal at Restaurant 1894.  At dinner, two of the more popular starters are the king scallops with potato, peas and pancetta, as well as the smoked salmon with parmesan waffle, beetroot sorbet and horseradish.  Both items will tantalize your taste buds.  Two of Restaurant’s 1894’s more popular entrees are the fillet of beef Rossini with croutons, pomme puree, tempura oysters, garlic wild mushrooms, and bone marrow as well as the barbecue chicken Makhani with curry, cauliflower, spiced rice, mung bean bread, and pomegranate salsa.  If you want an Asian-influenced entrée, the dim sum and oysters will satisfy any appetite.  Two of Houghton’s dynamic, delectable, and delicious desserts are lemon curd and Cornish clotted cream panna cotta with meringue and lemon crush ice cream….and autumn still life, which is a chestnut parfait with meringue, coffee anglaise, autumn leaves, candied nuts, and candied chestnut.

When it comes to wine, there’s a wide selection of wines to choose from, but you would be well served if you ordered The Crossings Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand.  The drinks menu also has a wide variety of gin, vodka, rum, whiskey, cognac, tequila, and bottled beers and ciders.  If you want to go ‘first-class continental’ with your beverage, Moet & Chandon Champagne from France can be ordered, too.  You can also request smoke bombs on top of your champagne, if you want some visual side effects.

For a third-party opinion on Restaurant 1894, you’ll be delighted to discover that Trip Advisor has given it a full five-star rating.  Also, the consumer reviews on Trip Advisor of the Restaurant 1894 are filled with praise.

The award-winning C Bay Spa can easily be the reason that you stay at the Carbis Bay Hotel.  With access to an outdoor heated pool, a hydropool, private hot tubs, and outdoor massages, the C Bay Spa is worthy of all the awards it has won for excellence in recent years.  As the hotel’s website accurately states, the C Bay Spa is where you go seeking “relaxation, replenishment, and rejuvenation.”

After sampling the sand on Carbis Bay Beach, the views out to sea, the food at Restaurant 1894, and the delightful C Bay Spa at the Carbis Bay Hotel, you might want to consider branching out to other sight-seeing ‘hot-spots’ in Cornwall such as Tate St. Ives (art gallery), Land’s End, Lanyon Quoit, St. Michael’s Mount, Minack Open Air Theatre, Trelissick Garden, Tintagel Castle, Truro Cathedral, Eden Project, and the world-famous Jamaica Inn, the focal point of a 1936 novel (Jamaica Inn) by author Daphne du Maurier.  For walking and outdoor enthusiasts, Cornwall also has miles and miles of seaside walking opportunities, specifically, the South West Coast (walking) Path that is easily accessible, on foot, from the Carbis Bay Hotel.  For golfers, there are more than 30 golf courses in Cornwall, including Cornwall’s oldest course, the West Cornwall Golf Club, which is located a few miles away in the adjacent village of Lelant.

If you are interested in staying at the Carbis Bay Hotel, having a cream tea at The Conservatory, taking advantage of the C Bay Spa, enjoying the hotel’s beach-level seaside views, eating at Restaurant 1894, The Beach Club Restaurant or the Hungry Gannet, check out the hotel’s website:  www.carbisbayhotel.co.uk

The Carbis Bay Hotel — and all that it has to offer — awaits your arrival, ideally after the G7 Summit.  Simply put, it is the ultimate in ‘barefoot escapism.’

Exploring Acadia National Park

Breathe deep. Fresh air awaits in Acadia National Park. This 47,000-acre treasure sits perched on the Atlantic Ocean. Unique in terrain with mountains reaching down to the sea, craggy rocks continuously massaged by ocean waves and wildlife ranging from moose to bear to whales. This is Acadia National Park–a place like none other.

I recently spent a few days exploring Acadia National Park, it wasn’t enough! But here are some of my favorite experiences and I can’t wait to go back for more.

Drive Park Loop Road

Get acquainted with the park and an overview of its varying landscapes with a drive along the 27-mile Park Loop Road. The scenic drive winds around the east side of Mount Desert Island connecting Acadia’s lakes, mountains and shoreline. For our drive, we started at Hulls Cove Visitor Center heading south along Paradise Hill Road before starting the “loop” section.

Of course, every scenic overlook tempts you to stop as you meander through the island. We stopped at several, snapping photos and ultimately detouring to wander down a short trail to scramble across the rocks perched above the sea.

Watch a Sunrise (or Sunset) from the Cadillac Mountain Summit

Watching the sunrise from the summit of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park ranks high on many visitor bucket lists. Some drive up while those with hardcore energy hike to the summit. With some of the best views of the Atlantic coast in all of New England, there’s a good reason Acadia is famous for mornings. Also, at 1,530 feet in elevation, Cadillac Mountain claims the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard making it one of the first places to see the sunrise in the United States at certain times of the year. Of course, that means you’ll find crowds at the top.

If rising from your cozy bed before daylight sounds dreadful, opt to catch the sunset. Being married to a late riser, we chose to sleep in and catch the sunset at the end of our adventure-filled day. We weren’t alone. As the temperature steadily dropped and the wind picked up, we donned our jackets and joined other sunset seekers on the west side of the mountain. The sun put on an unforgettable show as it eased its way below the horizon.

Take a Hike – Any Hike

With more than 150 hiking trails throughout Acadia National Park, you’re certain to find something that works for your hiking style. From flat trails leading to coastal vistas to mountain summits to carriage roads shared with horses and cyclists, there’s plenty to choose from. For the ultimate daredevils, some of the park’s more terrifying trails include precarious cliff walks and climbs up sheer rock faces. These often feature ladders and metal rings—via Ferrata style.

I’m not ready for that, so we stuck to a mountain trail tackling the popular North Ridge Trail on Cadillac Mountain. Doing things backward as I often do in life, we hiked down the mountain first. The mostly rocky terrain offered spectacular views in every direction. To the west, Eagle Lake shone a brilliant blue. To the north, the village of Bar Harbor and offshore islands spread out before us. I’ll confess, thanks to a bum knee, I opted not to go back up to the summit and sent my younger more fit husband up for the car! Meanwhile, I hung out in a scenic spot and soaked in all the beauty and fresh air I could handle.

Find Your Way to Wonderland

Located on what’s referred to by the locals as the quiet side of the park, the Wonderland Trail is an easy 1.3-mile walk through the forest leading to a stunning rocky beach. Here at low tide, tidal pools teeming with life take the stage. Tiny creatures move slowly through the shallow pools gathering nutrients while the waves roll out to sea. We stood mesmerized by these little creatures as the fog rolled in and out across the craggy rocks.

Stargaze on the Cadillac Mountain Summit

Clear skies prevailed during our brief time in Acadia National Park so we took advantage of it. Driving back up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain at nightfall, we indulged in a lobster mac & cheese picnic from the back of our Subaru Forester as we waited for the stars to come out. We weren’t disappointed, in the lobster mac & cheese or the stars.

Our heads tilted to the sky; my husband used his Night Sky app to identify constellations. At one point, a shooting star traveled across the expansive sky. It was the perfect ending to our day in this perfectly delightful park. Trust me, put this on your national park bucket list!
